Things have been going smoothly on the school front. The “medicine” I suggested for myself in my last post (a.k.a. a visit to my parents’ house to get out of town for an evening) seemed to solve all of my problems. My parents just remodeled their kitchen and I have a lot of granite envy. I love kitchens.
There are a lot more pictures up on flickr if you’d like to see the rest of the room. My dad also decided that the dining room needed a TV and he told my mom that they should go to Best Buy and “look” at TVs. Well, my dad looks at electronics the way my mom “looks” at prospective pets. I’ve always thought TVs in dining rooms/kitchens were a bit ridiculous, but I have to admit that it looks pretty cool.
In other news, one of my classmates (who was also a classmate of mine in undergrad) celebrated her birthday on Sunday. She wanted to go to some “dancing horses” show which was conveniently located 30 minutes from my parents’ house (which is why I chose to visit home when I did). The show was so cheesy, I thought I might vomit. Granted the narration was written for little girls, every other line included something like “magical wishes” and “what little girls truly wish for” and my personal favorite “the most beautiful horses in the world with flowing manes and tails that touch the ground!” The horses did some great “tricks” but I can’t say that it was the best I’ve ever seen. Nor were the collection of Arabians and American Sport Horses the “most beautiful horses in the world.” It was nice to go an celebrate with my classmate and some other friends, but I can’t say that I have some deep-seeded desire to see their Christmas performance like birthday friend was suggesting.
They did have a little farm with a petting zoo and I made another friend:
Actually, she was rather. As soon as I ran out of whatever goat feed they keep stocked in their quarter machines, she made a new friend. However, this was the first petting zoo I’d been to where the goats aren’t as wide as they are tall. I think I should alert the media.
